Sneem – Beara View
County Kerry, Ireland
This beautiful, new stone house was designed by a local architect in traditional Irish cottage style. It is a welcoming and easy-going place in which to spend an Irish holiday.
Enter into the front hallway that has a small guest powder room on the right. Then proceed directly into the living room, on the right of the hall. It has comfortable leather sofa and two leather easy chairs, a very attractive peat-burning fireplace, wood floor, nice art and Sky TV/DVD player.
The conservatory is adjacent to the living room. With large windows on all sides that provide breathtaking views of Kenmare Bay, the Beara Peninsula and a small, private island, it features similar furniture as the living room so the two rooms blend as one. French doors open onto the bay-facing patio.
The dining area has a table for 6 with large windows on three sides look out onto Kenmare Bay where you can view the Beara Peninsula Mountains across the bay. Waves break over a small island just off the nearby shore.
The large kitchen has a refrigerator-freezer, a gas stove top and electric oven, a microwave, black counter tops. Windows face the water. The nearby laundry room has a washer and dryer, shelves and a laundry sink for guests who fish from the dock.
The master bedroom is on the main floor and has a queen bed and two night tables, a desk and chair with a phone line for your lap top. A gas stove will keep you warm during cool nights and mornings. The walk-through closet has shelves and space for hanging clothes. Views are of the patio and, beyond that, the bay. The en suite bathroom has a double sink, a large tiled bathtub and separate large tiled shower. The three large windows in front of the bathtub provide a beautiful view out to the bay.
Two more bedrooms are upstairs. One of the bedrooms has a queen bed, two bedside tables and a large wardrobe. There are two sloping windows that face the view across the bay. You can lie in bed at night and watch the stars. The en suite bathroom has a shower stall.
There is a bonus room through a short hallway beyond this bedroom. The owners have not yet decided what to do with this room, but, in the meantime, it can be a handy place to store luggage or practice yoga.
The second upstairs bedroom has twin beds, a night table, a wardrobe and the same type of windows with the same view. The en suite bathroom also has a stall shower.
The large attached garage is for your car - and for your fishing, hiking or camping equipment. The patio, on the south side of the house, overlooks Kenmare Bay and a small private island. Just to the west is a peninsula populated only by cows.
Fishing poles/gear along with an assorment of wellies are provided for guests.
The house is on 12 acres on Kenmare Bay with only two other houses in the area. One is owned by Patrick, a fisherman, who catches fish, shrimp and lobster daily from the local dock, about 100 meters from the house. Tell him what you'd like in the evening and he'll have it for you the following day.
The house is 6 miles west of Sneem village in a little hamlet. Several beautiful walks begin here. One is into the hills and the other is along the shore. There are well-defined trails to Castlecove and to some of the local ancient sites. The nearest pub is in Sneem. The nearest shopping is in Sneem and in Kenmare and Killarney. Castlecove has fishing boats and boat tours. The location is ideal for golfers as there are many fine courses nearby.
The house is the perfect spot for exploring Kerry and Cork. Nearby Kenmare is renowned for its excellent restaurants and shops and there are many art galleries in the area. Fishing, walking, hill climbing, cycling, horse riding and boating and, of course, golf are all readily accessible. Killarney Muckross Gardens, Illnacullin Garnish Island Gardens and Bantry House are under one hour by car.
This region has scenery that is difficult to equal. The mountains, sea, lakes and woodland can be seen in varying light and shades, whatever the weather, and, because its shore is washed by the Gulf Stream, this region enjoys a mild climate all year.
Kenmare is 15 gorgeous miles (24 km) from the property. Shannon Airport is 110 miles (177 km). Cork is 60 miles (97 km). Killarney is 35 miles (56 km).
We regret that this house is not appropriate for children under 12. This is a strict no-smoking property and pets are not allowed.
ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE: This house has an en suite bedroom and a guest powder room on the main floor. The driveway and approach to the house is gravel, but there are concrete walks around the entire perimeter of the house.
