Moycullen – Manor House & Cottages

County Galway, Ireland

spacer line

Ross Castle offers refined elegance for your special occasion or memorable holiday. The distinctive ambience of the Castle's grand rooms and cottages will captivate you and up to 40 guests.

Ross Castle borders Connemara and is 9 miles from Galway City. The Aran Islands, Cliffs of Mohar, golf courses and horseback riding are all close by.

Ross Castle, built during the 16th century, is a listed building restored to contemporary standards and accented with beautiful antique furnishings and oriental rugs.

Every window captures magical views of rolling parkland, lake and mountains.

The grounds of the estate are ideal for the active.  On the grounds you can enjoy tennis, boating, fishing, football or softball on the sixteen acre front lawn and a vast forest, with trails, for a relaxing jog. In addition, there is an indoor swimming pool, billiards room, and table tennis in the St. George cottage.

The elegant drawing room with two Steinway grand pianos, Persian carpets, fine oil paintings and an antique chess table, has three windows that command a stunning view of nearby mountains and lake.

The Library, which has over a thousand volumes as well as current magazines and newspapers, has a log fireplace that warms the celebration of afternoon tea.

The dining room seats 30 people comfortably. The room boasts a great stone fireplace with a carved coat of arms commemorating the marriage of Robert Martin, who built the castle in 1590, and Kate Lynch. The Martin and Lynch families are two of the fourteen "tribes of Galway".

Tour Connemara which is the most beautiful part of Ireland and totally unspoiled.

Favorite Local Restaurant
Name: White Gables
Distance from Property: 4.00 Miles
Type of Restaurant: Elegant
Type of Food: Traditional Irish
Interesting Facts: Kevin and Ann Dunne established the restaurant, at the crossroads in Moycullen village, 8km from Galway. It is housed in an old stone cottage dating back in 1920s. Cooking is traditional and focused around seafood, with time warp classics such as seafood cocktail Marie Rose, poached fresh halibut Veronique and scallops mornay increasing the sense created by the intimate, candlelit interior with its warm red tones and floral lampshades of this being a place apart. Meat dishes make no concessions to whims of culinary fashion and with some justification, it seems: a traditional roast duckling with orange sauce is among the most popular choices. Details like the fresh flowers, even in the spotless bathrooms, the mint chocolates served with coffee and the professional, attentive service make dinner here feel like a special occasion. The wine list is both comprehensive and exciting with lots of new world discoveries.
